TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My top priority in any class is giving my students something to take with them. Whether this is an idea, an emotion, a question, or a sense of satisfaction, I want my students to have gained something that they can take out of my class and into their lives. I strive to provide opportunities for students to be curious about movement as well; through improvisation, peer learning, and constant variety, I hope to promote learning and passion.

I truly aspire to find a balance between the discipline and technique of movement with enjoyment. Dance should simply have an element of fun for students. This idea does place a responsibility on me as an educator to provide diversity within my classes while maintaining an upbeat, positive disposition, and I accept the challenge wholeheartedly.

By working hard, treating everyone with respect, and being enthusiastic about what I am teaching, I give students a real-life example of how the learning environment reflects the attitudes of everyone involved. Similarly, I support a learning experience that reminds the students that I, too, am constantly learning. Education is never-ending, and in my class, we learn from one another on a daily basis.

Teaching is in my blood, in my being, and I look forward to bringing my style and my personality to each and every class I give. Each class and student is different, and I thrive on the challenge of balancing my teaching techniques with all types of learning.
